Abstract
Punggol District is located in the East Region; and the district comprises Punggol New Town and Punggol Point Estate.

Punggol is developed in 1998 as the 20th New Town of Singapore. As of 2012, Punggol is the latest new town development in Singapore.

Toponymics
Punggol means 'to throw sticks' in Malay, which refers to the throwing of sticks at the branches of fruit trees, so as to knock down the fruits. It also refers to a place where fruits and forest produces are offered for wholesale.
