Bukit Panjang: Introduction

Abstract
Bukit Panjang District is located in the West Region; and the district comprises Bukit Panjang New Town, Cashew Estate, Dairy Farm Estate and Upper Peirce Reservoir.

Bukit Panjang is developed in 1984 as the 15th New Town of Singapore. It is one of the three miniature towns conceived in the early 1980s. The 'Stepped Housing' architecture format is first introduced at Bukit Panjang New Town.

Toponymics
Bukit Panjang means "long spread of hills" in Malay. The name is derived from the range of low hills stretching from Bukit Timah to Mandai.
