Queenstown Town Centre

11 December 2006

Queenstown Town Centre is located at the centre of Duchess Estate, between Commonwealth Avenue and Margaret Drive.

Planning of the Town Centre was finalised in 1962. With 3 theatres, 2 shopping centres, a market and a post office, the Town Centre is the commercial and social nucleus of Queenstown, making it quite independent of the city for facilities and amenities associated with the needs of a self-sufficient community.

The Town Centre was extended twice in 1968 and 1974 to include a library, cooked food complex, polyclinic and more low-rise flats. The extensions require the Board to reserve more land for the development of future town centres.

Landscaping of the town centre was carried out in 1970. A swan fountain was added to highlight the pedestrian area of the town centre.
