Bishan: Introduction

Abstract
Bishan District is located in the North Region; and the district comprises Bishan New Town, Sin Ming Estate, Thomson Estate and Lower Peirce Reservoir.

Bishan is developed in 1983 as the 14th New Town of Singapore. It is one of the three miniature towns conceived in the early 1980s.

Bishan population is predominated by the Cantonese.

Toponymics
Bishan used to be known as Kampong San Teng or Peck San Teng.
